MCD OCTOX with race number 2 at the curbs

Introduction

Designed electric from the ground up

The OCTOX is not a converted nitro car. MCD Racing developed it as a pure electric chassis for the 1:8 GT class – with clever shared parts, a ball-cup drivetrain all round and a suspension that can be adjusted in almost every direction.

It comes in two versions: the OCTOX Pro with composite suspension parts and the OCTOX Ultimate with aluminium. Chassis, drivetrain and adjustment options are the same on both.

Engineering you can feel on track

For every detail: what it is – and what it does for you as a driver. Tip: click images to enlarge.

Cutaway of the OCTOX shock with high-pressure cell

Shocks with high-pressure cell

An internal high-pressure cell and a floating piston compensate for the shaft volume.

Your benefit: The oil doesn't foam even over a long run – damping stays consistent.

OCTOX drivetrain with ball-cup system

Ball-cup drivetrain all round

All drive shafts run in the ball-cup system – from the centre diff to the wheels.

Your benefit: A consistently smooth, free-running drivetrain.

OCTOX 3-ball drive shafts

3-ball drive shafts

Three balls transfer the power. Steel on the OCTOX Pro, aluminium on the OCTOX Ultimate.

Your benefit: Less friction at full suspension travel and less wear.

OCTOX motor mounted on the right or left

Motor left or right

The motor can be mounted on either side; the steering setup is adapted accordingly.

Your benefit: You can tune the weight distribution to the track and your driving style.

Smart Design

Fewer parts in your pit box

Many parts fit left and right, some even front and rear. That saves money, you need to stock fewer spares – and when repairing between two heats you simply grab the right part.

Setup

The right setup for every track

Almost every suspension geometry on the OCTOX is adjustable – usually without special parts, just by rotating, repositioning or adding spacers. All adjustments are available on both the OCTOX Pro and the OCTOX Ultimate.

Front roll centre adjustment

Front roll centre

4 positions

Bidirectional part: simply rotate it 180°.

Rear roll centre adjustment

Rear roll centre

6 positions

Bidirectional part: simply rotate it 180°.

Squat and anti-squat adjustment

Squat / Anti-Squat

−3° to +3°

Rear anti-squat gives more traction under acceleration.

Anti-dive and kick-up adjustment

Anti-Dive / Kickup

−3° to +3°

Anti-dive prevents the front from diving under braking on high-grip tracks.

Rear toe-in adjustment with inserts

Rear toe-in

0–3°

Via inserts. For toe-out, simply swap the left and right hubs.

Front and rear camber adjustment

Camber

front & rear

Rear via screws. Front: spacers on the OCTOX Ultimate, adjustment screw on the OCTOX Pro.

Wheelbase adjustment with spacers

Wheelbase

Spacers

Easily adjusted with spacers (bushings).

Caster adjustment with Y-clips

Y-Clips

Quickly adjusted with Y-clips.

Maintenance

Quick wrenching between heats

OCTOX broken down into assemblies: chassis, front and rear axle

Modular design

The front and rear axles come off as complete units. Instead of stripping half the car, you only work on the assembly you need.

Centering tool locks the steering at zero

Steering at zero

A centering tool locks the steering at zero. That lets you set the toe precisely – even under time pressure in the pits.

Pro vs. Ultimate

Which OCTOX is right for you?

Chassis, drivetrain, shocks and all adjustment options are the same. The difference is in the suspension: composite on the OCTOX Pro, aluminium on the OCTOX Ultimate.

Ball joint with double-direction thrust bearing on the OCTOX Ultimate

OCTOX ULTIMATE ONLY

Thrust bearing ball joint

The front lower wishbones use a purpose-built ball joint with a double-direction thrust bearing. According to MCD, it prevents the binding that can occur with conventional ball joints – making the steering especially smooth and direct.

OCTOX Pro – for you if …

  • you're getting into the 1:8 GT-E class – and still want a competitive car.
  • you'd rather spend your budget on electronics, tyres and track time.
  • you want to upgrade to alloy step by step later on.

OCTOX Ultimate – for you if …

  • you race regularly and compete in championships.
  • you want a more robust suspension that handles contact better.
  • You want the flagship of the OCTOX range – fully equipped with alloy from the factory.

SVEN'S SETUP TIP

“I run the OCTOX Ultimate myself – but with the composite rear lower wishbones from the OCTOX Pro. You don't have to choose all or nothing: parts from the OCTOX Pro and OCTOX Ultimate can be combined.”

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you race the OCTOX Pro?

Yes. The OCTOX Pro is not only a way into the class but also suited for competition. Chassis, drivetrain, shocks and all setup options are identical to the OCTOX Ultimate.

Can I upgrade the OCTOX Pro to alloy?

Yes. You can upgrade the OCTOX Pro with the alloy parts of the OCTOX Ultimate one by one – for example starting with the parts that take the most hits.

Is alloy always better than composite?

Not necessarily. Alloy is more robust; according to MCD, composite is more flexible and absorbs impacts better on bumpy surfaces. Many drivers combine both – Sven, for example, runs his OCTOX Ultimate with composite rear lower wishbones.

Where can I find exploded views and setups?

In the Parts Finder on the home page and in the downloads section.
